Assessment and Reporting

Students will have their progress monitored throughout each and every lesson, and the teacher will use this information to decide what the next steps are for learning. Subjects will also have regular assessments in lessons: these can take many forms and could be retrieval practice for key topics, an end of unit test, a project, or a performance.

As a parent, you can monitor the progress of your child through regular information shared on classcharts in terms of house points and demerits. You will also get some key data sent to you over the course of the year, and there will be opportunities to come in and meet with teachers. At any time, you are welcome to contact the school to ask for a meeting with a member of staff or a phone call, or you can email our teachers.

Here is an outline of some key reporting information we share:

Year 7

What Does it Show You

Subject Specific Vocabulary Report

At the end of each half-term

These are assessments of the key words that are important for a subject, and show how well students understand the language needed for learning.

For example, a student may learn what the definition is of chlorophyll in Science or the meaning of the word patella in PE.

They do not tell you how well your child can apply that meaning to the subject, but they do show if they have been working to learn the definitions.

Parents' Information Evening

September

This is an opportunity to meet your child's tutor and speak to them about any concerns or pass on any information to them. There will be information provided about different school systems and platforms, and different members of staff available.

CAT4 Report

September

CAT4 reports show you how easily your child can access academic subjects based on their thinking skills. They are tested on a range of pattern-spotting problems, and this data is compared to a national sample and standardised. They also give you predicted GCSE grades based on your child’s profile and recommended strategies to support their learning.

Monitoring Report

March

This report shows you the attainment in each subject your child studies. These are based on a rubric which tells you what they can (and cannot) do in each subject, depending on what grade they have. For example, a student may be able to explain geographical patterns at more than one scale but not at a global scale.

You can find the rubric here:
