Subject Specific Vocabulary

Booklets are provided to students each half-term and contain lists of key terminology and vocabulary which will be necessary for them to succeed in each of their subjects. These are usually lists of tier 3 vocabulary, but may include tier 2 vocabulary for some subjects, depending on how the terms are used in that discipline. Students must learn these terms to support their knowledge acquisition and literacy, across every subject.

At the end of each half-term, students in Years 7-11 will complete an assessment based on their Subject Specific Vocabulary. Tests will be cumulative; that is: they will feature the most recent content as well as some from the previous booklets. This is important to ensure that students move the information they have learned to their long term memory and are able to retrieve it in the future. Learning content for the short term only is not useful for long term success.

The pass rate is currently 60%. If this level is not achieved, students are supported to re-take the test in lesson time to promote further retention of the knowledge and vocabulary.

Don't forget, if you achieve 100% you will be rewarded with 3 House Points, 90% with 2 House Points and 60%+ pass will achieve 1 House Point
